4XPRO Front CV Axle for the Yamaha Wolverine X2 850 and X4 850: Fully Assembled for $129

A front axle on a Wolverine rarely fails all at once. It starts as a click on full lock in a tight turn, which you ignore. It gets louder. Then one day there is grease flung around the inside of a wheel and a split boot behind it, and by that point the joint has been running on grit for weeks. The 4XPRO Front CV Axle for the Yamaha Wolverine is the unglamorous fix, and it is $129.

It comes out of the box ready to go in

4XPRO describes this as a heavy-duty replacement front CV axle, built for hard trail, mud and work use. The line that matters on a Saturday morning is the next one: it is fully assembled with inboard and outboard CV joints and neoprene boots, so it installs straight out of the box.

That is worth more than it sounds. Half the misery of an axle job is not the axle job — it is pressing joints, packing grease and clamping boots on a bench before the machine can move at all. A complete assembled unit turns it back into what it should be: pull the wheel, pull the old axle, put the new one in, torque it, go ride. It is an afternoon, not a weekend.

Why the boot is the whole story

A CV joint does not wear out on its own in any reasonable timeframe. It wears out because the boot tore, the grease left, and dirt and water took its place. Once that has happened, the joint is grinding itself into filings every mile you drive. Replacing a boot on a joint that has already run dry is putting a clean sock on a bad foot — the damage is already inside.

That is why a fully assembled axle at this price makes more sense than a repair most of the time. A boot kit plus an afternoon of your labour plus the chance the joint is already notchy is not obviously cheaper than a new assembly that comes with fresh joints at both ends and fresh boots over them. And if you are already in there, replacing the shaft means you are not doing this again in six months.

Fitment

4XPRO lists this front axle for:

  • 2018-2025 Yamaha Wolverine X4
  • 2019-2026 Yamaha Wolverine X2

Note that the year ranges are not identical between the two machines — the X4 starts a year earlier, the X2 runs a year later. Confirm your exact year and model against the listing before ordering. And note the obvious one: this is a front axle. If the clicking is coming from behind you, it is a different part.

Who it is for

Anyone hearing the click. Also anyone who rides a Wolverine in mud or water often enough to know that boots are a consumable in that environment, and who would rather have a spare on the shelf than make a phone call from the trail. At $129 for a complete assembly, a spare front axle is cheap insurance for a machine that spends its time a long way from the shop — which is most of them.
