4XPRO Rear CV Axle for the Yamaha Viking 700 and Wolverine 700: One Part Number for Either Side, $129

A torn boot is how most rear axles die, and almost nobody catches it on the day it happens. The boot splits on a rock or dry-rots over a winter, the grease walks out over the next few rides, the joint takes on grit and water, and then one afternoon there is a click on turns that becomes a clunk that becomes a Viking on a trailer. On a machine that spends its life hauling and towing, that is a work stoppage. The 4XPRO Rear CV Axle for the Yamaha Viking 700 and Wolverine 700 is the straightforward fix, and it is $129.

What you get in the box

4XPRO describes this as a heavy-duty replacement rear CV axle built for hard trail, mud and work use. The part that matters for a driveway repair is how it arrives: fully assembled with inboard and outboard CV joints and neoprene boots, so it installs straight out of the box.

  • Inboard and outboard CV joints already assembled
  • Neoprene boots fitted
  • No greasing, packing or boot clamping before it goes in
  • Fits the rear left or the rear right — one part number either side

That last point is worth more than it looks on a parts list. Ordering a side-specific axle is one of the easiest ways to lose a weekend, and keeping one spare that covers either rear corner is the whole argument for buying a second one before you need it. If you have ever rebuilt a joint on a bench with a hammer, a bag of grease and a boot clamp tool, the case for a fully assembled axle makes itself.

Fitment

4XPRO lists this axle for four Yamaha models:

  • 2014-2026 4X4 Yamaha 700 Viking
  • 2015-2026 4X4 Yamaha 700 Viking VI
  • 2016-2018 4X4 Yamaha 700 Wolverine
  • 2016-2018 4X4 Yamaha 700 Wolverine R-Spec

Note how different the two halves of that list are. The Viking and Viking VI run the full span from 2014 and 2015 forward. The Wolverine and Wolverine R-Spec are a narrow 2016-2018 window only, which is the detail that catches Wolverine owners — if yours is newer than 2018, this is not your axle. All four entries are 4X4 machines.

Who it is for

This is a repair part, and it should be bought like one. If you have a clicking rear corner, a boot you can see daylight through, or grease sprayed around the inside of a rear wheel, you are already past the point where a boot kit is the smart money — the joint has been running dirty and a new assembled axle costs less than doing the job twice. At $129 it is also cheap enough to keep one on the shelf, which is the right move if the machine is a work or hunting rig that has to run on a Saturday morning.

While the old axle is out, look at the wheel bearing and the hub. A failing bearing is what kills the next axle too, and the only convenient time to deal with it is while the corner is already apart. Check the other side's boots at the same time — they have seen the same miles.
