Duraclutch RXL Primary and Belt Kit for the 2021-2026 Ranger XP 1000: Six Rollers and a Sealed Shift Cavity

Anyone who has spent a winter plowing with a Ranger XP 1000 knows the feel of a flyweight primary at low speed: the machine sits there making noise, then grabs, then surges, and you spend the whole push modulating a pedal that only wants to be on or off. That harshness is not a tuning problem you can spring your way out of — it is how a flyweight-engaged CVT behaves. The Duraclutch RXL Primary and Belt Only Kit for the 2021-2026 Ranger XP 1000 replaces the mechanism rather than retuning it, and it is $1,299.

What is in the kit, and what is not

This kit includes the primary clutch and the drive belt. That is it — it is the primary-and-belt-only version, not a full system with a secondary. Duraclutch sells it alongside their complete systems specifically so owners who do not need or want the secondary side can buy just the half that changes how the machine engages.

Fitment is 2021-2026 Ranger XP 1000, all models including NorthStar, with the specific model selected from the drop-down menu at checkout. Pick carefully there: a cab machine and a base machine are not the same calibration target, and the drop-down exists because that distinction matters.

Six rollers instead of flyweights

The RXL uses six internal rollers, a finely tuned ramp profile and a sealed shift cavity, with all components calibrated together. The rollers are the headline. Duraclutch says they provide smooth engagement with effective damping, eliminating the harsh engagement of flyweight-engaged CVTs.

The practical difference is in the first few hundred RPM after takeup. A flyweight pivots and slams; a roller climbing a ramp applies clamp force progressively, and the damping keeps it from oscillating. That is why the fix for a jerky Ranger is not a different spring but a different engagement mechanism.

Duraclutch also claims excellent belt pinch, with no belt slip at start up or at higher speeds. Slip at startup is where most belts die, because a slipping belt at a crawl has no airflow to carry the heat away.

Lower RPM, and the fuel number

The one owners talk about most is cruising RPM. Duraclutch states that efficient roller transition through the whole torque curve results in better fuel mileage up to 32% and a quieter ride, and that the clutch runs lower RPMs.

Read “up to” as the ceiling it is, not the average. But the direction is real and it is the same mechanism in both cases: if the clutch shifts out further for a given road speed, the engine turns slower, which is quieter in the cab and uses less fuel per mile. On a machine used for long property loops or hauling, that is the change you notice an hour in rather than in the first hundred feet.

Response and calibration

  • Fine-tuned roller ramp profile — Duraclutch describes ultra effective upshift and backshift.
  • Superbly calibrated system — more function in low gear, and better acceleration through the entire RPM range in high gear.
  • Multiple calibration options — dial the clutch in based on your vehicle specs and riding environment.

Backshift is the one that earns its keep on a work machine. Upshift gets you moving; backshift is what happens when you hit the bottom of a hill with a loaded bed and need the clutch to find the ratio again without waiting for the engine to fall on its face.

Durability: the sealed cavity

The sealed shift cavity keeps dirt and dust away from the rollers, which Duraclutch says makes it a long-life primary that performs consistently. This is the quiet engineering answer to the real-world problem with any roller mechanism — it works beautifully until grit gets into the ramps, and then it does not.

Duraclutch also points to less component wear, which they translate as less shop time and more ride time, and low belt temps, with the whole clutch system running cooler for optimal performance and improved belt life. Those two are the same story told twice: a clutch that is not slipping is not making heat, and heat is what consumes belts.

Who it is for

This is for the 2021-2026 Ranger XP 1000 owner who actually works the machine — plowing, hauling, long low-speed pulls — and who is tired of either the engagement feel or the belt bill. If you want the secondary side done as well, Duraclutch builds complete systems for the Ranger too; this kit is the targeted version.
