A polycarbonate windshield on a Talon is a consumable. It starts out clear, then it picks up a season of sand blasting and bug scrubbing, and one morning you are looking into low sun through a wall of fine scratches and you cannot see the trail. Everybody has the same workaround — microfiber, special cleaner, never a shop rag — and everybody ends up buying a second plastic windshield anyway. 8mm DOT laminated glass
The windshield is made of 8mm thick DOT-approved laminated safety glass, which Kemimoto rates as 3x more scratch-resistant than polycarbonate.
Laminated is the word to pay attention to, and it is the same construction as an automotive windshield: two layers of glass bonded to an inner layer, so a rock strike cracks the glass instead of sending it into the cab. Plastic does not scratch like glass does because plastic is softer than the sand hitting it — glass is harder, which is the entire point. A glass windshield you can actually clean with a squeegee and a rag is a different ownership experience from one you have to baby.
Sliding vents
Kemimoto fits adjustable sliding vents for on-demand ventilation. Open them to cool down the cockpit in summer; close them to block dust, mud and cold wind.
This is what makes a full windshield livable year-round. A sealed full glass windshield in July turns the cab into a greenhouse and pulls your own dust in behind you at low speed. Vents you can slide from the seat mean one windshield instead of a summer windshield and a winter windshield.
The wiper
The kit includes a manual wiper that covers 90% of the driver's field of view. Manual, not electric — you turn it by hand from inside the cab.
That is honest engineering for a machine like this. There is no motor to drown, no relay to corrode and no wiring to run. In mud and rain a wiper is the difference between stopping to get out and wipe the glass with your sleeve, and clearing it without taking your eyes off the trail. Kemimoto also lists the windshield as all-scenario protection against sun, gravel, dust and rain, which is a fair description of a Talon's working life.

Who it is for
The Talon owner who rides in real weather and is done replacing plastic. If your machine lives in a trailer and comes out for dry weekends, a vented polycarbonate shield is cheaper and lighter. If you ride in dust, rain, cold and low sun — and especially if you ride in front of or behind other machines — glass with a wiper is the last windshield you buy for the car. Glass is heavier than plastic, so expect to take a little more care supporting it during install and to torque the clamps evenly rather than cranking them.
