Laminated glass instead of plastic
This windshield is 9/32-inch laminated automotive-style glass. Two things follow from that. First, it stays clear: glass resists the scratching that turns a plastic shield milky after a couple of seasons of mud and dust. Second, laminated glass behaves the way a truck windshield does if something hits it — it holds together rather than shattering. Plastic is lighter and cheaper; glass is what you buy when the machine is a daily driver.
The wiper is the part that matters
A glass windshield without a wiper is a glass windshield you can't see out of in the rain. Kemimoto's kit runs a 12V electric motor on a simple three-position On/Off/Reset switch, and the reset position parks the blade where it belongs instead of leaving it stranded mid-sweep.
The sweep itself covers 165 degrees — wide enough to clear most of the driver's field of view rather than a narrow arc in the middle. On a muddy or snowy trail, the corners are where the blind spots hide, and the wide sweep is what gets rid of them.
Installation
