Cold does not end riding season — a fogged windshield does. You can dress for 25 degrees, but you cannot dress your way out of a windshield that ices over from the inside every time you stop, or a cab that never warms up on a two-hour ride. That is the problem the Moto Alliance FIRESTORM Cab Heater for the 2018-2025 Can-Am Maverick Trail and Sport is built to solve, and it does it with 18,000 BTU pulled off a radiator that is already making that heat and throwing it away.
How it works
A FIRESTORM is not a space heater. It taps the machine's existing cooling system and runs coolant through a highly efficient heat exchanger capable of up to 18,000 BTU from your radiator at 0-125 CFM. The engine is already producing that heat; the heater just routes some of it into the cab instead of out the front of the machine. That is why it works as well on a cold idle in the woods as it does at speed.
The install is designed to disappear. You get a custom OEM look with no visible heater core, which on a Maverick Trail or Sport matters — cab space is not abundant, and a heater box strapped under the dash costs you knee room and looks like an afterthought.
What's in the kit
- Custom installation brackets and hose lengths specific to the Can-Am Maverick Trail/Sport
- Highly efficient heat exchanger, up to 18,000 BTU at 0-125 CFM
- Adjustable temperature setting and fan speed, with 360-degree vents
- Dedicated driver and passenger vents, plus two defrost vents aimed at the windshield
- Built-in shutoff valve
- Automotive-grade radiator hose rated -40 to 120 degrees C
- High-performance alloy radiator Y connectors
- All installation hardware and instructions
Two details in that list are worth calling out. The built-in shutoff valve is what lets you kill coolant flow to the heater in summer instead of living with a warm cab in July. And the alloy Y connectors are the parts that a cheaper kit gets wrong — plastic tees in a coolant line under vibration are how a cold-weather upgrade turns into a roadside coolant leak.
Why the defrost vents matter more than the BTU number
Everyone shops cab heaters on BTU. What actually decides whether you keep riding in winter is glass. The FIRESTORM includes two defrost vents specifically to keep the windshield clear of snow and ice, separate from the dedicated driver and passenger vents that keep you warm. That split is the difference between a heater that makes your legs comfortable and a heater that lets you see where you're going. With 360-degree adjustable vents and adjustable fan speed, you can bias airflow toward the glass when it's fogging and back toward the cab once it clears.
