An RMAX will run all winter. The problem is the person driving it. Past about thirty degrees the cold stops being a novelty and starts costing you hours — fingers that will not work a shifter cleanly, a windshield that fogs the moment you breathe on it, and a ride that gets cut short because somebody in the cab has had enough. A heater is the accessory that turns a three-season machine into a four-season one, and the Moto Alliance FIRESTORM Cab Heater for the Yamaha RMAX is built specifically for this chassis rather than adapted to it.
How it makes heat
A FIRESTORM is a liquid heater, not an electric one. It taps your cooling system and runs engine coolant through a heat exchanger inside the cab, which is why it can produce real heat instead of the lukewarm trickle a 12-volt fan heater manages. Moto Alliance rates this one at up to 18,000 BTU pulled off the radiator, at 0 to 125 CFM.
The heat exchanger itself was redesigned in 2024, and Moto Alliance describes it as highly efficient — worth knowing if you have looked at a FIRESTORM before and are comparing against an older kit. Temperature and fan speed are both adjustable, and the outlets use 360-degree louvers, so you can point heat at the windshield to clear fog or at the floor to thaw your boots without rerouting anything.
There is also a built-in shutoff valve. That is the detail that makes a liquid heater livable year-round: come spring you close the valve and the heater stops pulling heat out of the cooling system, instead of you removing hoses or driving around in July with a radiator working overtime.

What is in the box
This is where a machine-specific kit separates itself from a universal one. Moto Alliance says you get everything needed for installation: automotive-grade radiator hose cut to length, custom installation brackets, hole saws, and instructions written by American engineers who have personally installed the product.
Each of those is a job you would otherwise be doing yourself in the driveway. Hose cut to length means no guessing and no second trip for a coupler. Custom brackets mean the heater box mounts where it was designed to mount instead of wherever you can make a zip tie reach. Hole saws mean the vents end up the right diameter the first time, which matters because a hole in a dash panel is not a decision you get to revisit. And instructions written by somebody who has actually done this install on this machine are worth more than a generic sheet, because the hard part of a heater install is never the heater — it is finding the coolant lines and routing hose through a chassis that was not designed with you in mind.
Moto Alliance also points to twenty years in the industry and a tech team available before, during and after the purchase. On an install that involves opening up a cooling system, a phone number that gets answered is a specification.
Fitment
- 2020–2026 Yamaha RMAX
- Yamaha Wolverine RMAX2 1000
FIRESTORM heaters are described as custom designed for an OEM fit in the RMAX, which is the whole argument for buying the machine-specific kit over the universal one. Confirm your year, make and model before ordering.
Who it is for
Anyone who plows with an RMAX, hunts late season, runs a trapline, checks fence in February, or simply would rather not park the machine from November to March. It is also the single best upgrade for keeping passengers willing — a heater does more for how often a side-by-side actually gets used in winter than any other few hundred dollars you can spend on it.
