Why a portal instead of a bracket lift
A bracket lift raises the machine by changing suspension angles, which stresses axles and CV joints. A portal box bolts to the knuckle and moves the axle centerline up inside its own gear housing, so the axles stay at their factory angles. On top of the 4 inches of lift, the GDP portal gear lift gives you a choice of 15% or 30% gear reduction. That reduction multiplies torque at the wheel, which is what makes big tires turn like they're stock size again.
What's inside the box
SuperATV builds these around gears that are precision CNC-ground from 9310 steel alloy. Housings are available in cast or billet aluminum, reinforced for gear retention and optimized for oil flow, and they mount to 5/16-inch backing plates made from a steel alloy SuperATV says is stronger than chromoly. Sealing is where cheaper portals fail, so this kit uses advanced gaskets and O-rings, a sealed input gear, a double-lipped output seal, double-angular contact output bearings, and roller idler and drive bearings.
If you ride hard, the Dual Idler option is worth a serious look. It adds a second idler gear inside each portal box, spreading the load over twice the surface area for the strongest gear set SuperATV offers.
Everything you need to install it
- Four fully assembled portal boxes
