SuperATV Electric Dump Bed Kit for the Polaris General XP 1000: 600 Pounds at the Flip of a Switch

The General XP 1000 is the rare machine that gets used like a sport car on Saturday and like a work truck on Sunday, and the dump bed is where that second job happens. It is also where the factory left you doing the work yourself. Load the bed with gravel, firewood or feed, then walk around back, grab the lip and heave. One person with a full bed and a bad lower back finds out quickly that "dump bed" and "dumping the bed" are two different things. The SuperATV Polaris General XP 1000 Electric Dump Bed Kit takes that chore and puts it on a switch.

What it actually does

SuperATV's kit transforms your machine's dump bed from manual to electronic. It replaces the stock strut with a super tough electronic actuator, and once it is in, the bed is capable of dumping loads up to 600 pounds with the flip of a switch.

Six hundred pounds is the number worth sitting with. That is a full bed of wet sand, a load of split oak, or a stack of mineral blocks — the kind of load you would otherwise unload by hand, one armful at a time, because you cannot lift the bed with it in there. An actuator does not care how much is in the bed. It also does not care that it is raining, or that you are already tired, which is when most back injuries on a farm actually happen.

Installation and travel

This is the part that keeps it a Saturday-morning job rather than a project. SuperATV says the kit mounts in the same place as the stock strut, so there is no fabricating a bracket and no drilling a new mounting point into the frame. You pull the factory gas strut, the actuator goes where it was, and you wire the switch.

The actuator extends up to 16 inches, so it fully dumps the bed. That matters more than it sounds like it should. A short-throw actuator will tip a bed partway and leave the last of the load sitting against the front wall, which means you are back there with a shovel anyway. Full travel means the bed goes all the way over and the load leaves on its own.

Who it is for

Anyone whose General does actual work. If the bed is mostly carrying a cooler and a chainsaw, the factory strut is fine. If you are hauling gravel for a driveway, firewood out of the timber, or anything you currently unload with a shovel, the electric dump bed kit pays for itself in trips you no longer have to make by hand. It is also the obvious upgrade if you ride alone — a manual bed with a heavy load is a two-person job, and a switch is not.

One practical note: run the wiring where it will not get pinched by the bed as it cycles, and test the full stroke empty before you load it the first time.
