Every full windshield owner learns the same lesson twice. Closed, it keeps the wind and rain out and turns the cab into a greenhouse the moment the sun comes out. Open or removed, you get airflow and a face full of dust. A manual flip windshield fixes half of that, provided you are willing to stop, get out, unlatch it and do the whole thing again a mile later when conditions change. The SuperATV MaxDrive Power Flip Windshield for the Yamaha Wolverine RMAX takes the getting-out part away: you open it, close it, or park it anywhere in between with the push of a button.
How it works
The MaxDrive runs on high-strength electric actuators rather than a latch and a gas strut. SuperATV specs them as tough enough to hold the windshield in any position even when things get really rough, which is the part that matters — a powered windshield that walks itself shut over whoops is worse than a manual one. Heavy-duty brackets and clamps carry the load so nothing works loose over a season.
What you get out of that is control you will actually use. Cracked open an inch on a warm day moves air without letting the dust up over the hood. Fully open on a hot climb. Fully closed the second it starts raining, without pulling over.
The glass — which is not glass
SuperATV builds this out of 1/4-inch polycarbonate, which they rate at 25 times stronger than acrylic and 250 times stronger than glass. That is the whole argument for polycarbonate on a side-by-side: it takes hit after hit from rocks and branches without cracking or breaking. A cracked windshield on a trail machine is not a cosmetic problem, it is a windshield you now have to replace.
The trade-off with polycarbonate has always been scratching, and that is what the XR Optic Hard Coating is for. SuperATV applies it to both sides, invisible, to hold off scratches over time so the view stays clear ride after ride. On a windshield you are going to be looking through in low sun for the next several years, the coating matters as much as the thickness.
Fitment
- Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 2 1000: 2021+
- Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 4 1000 Compact: 2021+
- Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 4 1000 (with dump bed): 2025+
Note the split on the RMAX 4. The Compact goes back to 2021; the full-size car with the dump bed is 2025 and up. SuperATV also notes the windshield works with most hard and soft tops, so you are not forced to rethink your roof to run it.
Who it is for
This is not the cheapest way to put glass in front of you, and it is not meant to be. It is for the owner who rides in weather that changes — morning frost to afternoon sun, dry road to rain squall — and who has gotten tired of choosing once in the driveway and living with it all day. If your RMAX works in one climate and one temperature, a fixed vented windshield does the job for a third of the money. If it does not, the button pays for itself in the first season.
